As of October 12 our area is again essentially unchanged but it pays to remember that any rains Tuesday and onward aren’t in this report so hopefully conditions will improve a bit. Wheat planted is coming up and looking good.
Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training area. Donors will receive t-shirts and $5 e-cards. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks will be required.
Barton alumni and Adjunct Instructor of Barton’s Medical Lab Technician (MLT) Program Tyler Brown wanted to be a dental hygienist, or so she thought. After completing Barton’s phlebotomy course as a pre-requisite for a hygienist program, she realized she had a new dream.

The Barton Performing Arts Department invites the community to enjoy its “Autumn Arts” concert from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The concert will feature the Barton Music Department and Barton Dance Theatre.
Those passionate about hip hop dance techniques can learn from one of the region’s best as Barton Student Life and the Barton Dance Department presents a masterclass by Kansas City artist SugEasy Singleton in two sessions at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Oct.8 in Studio 34 on the Barton campus.
The Barton Community College Theatre Department students in collaboration with the Great Bend Community Theatre will hold open auditions for all ages for their holiday play “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 11-13 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Barton Community College will help area high school seniors plan for their futures at Senior Day, starting at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 17, with a sign-up deadline of Nov. 1. Those interested can sign up at seniorday.bartonccc.edu.
A large group of Barton students participated in the ninth annual “Golden Belt Glow 4 Life” 5k run/walk to help promote suicide awareness Saturday in Great Bend at Veteran’s Park. The event was put on by the Center for Counseling in Great Bend.
